Vera Vale
Lead Vocalist
Age 27
Intense, poetic, fiercely intelligent. Vera commands attention without demanding it — she walks into a room and the air changes. She speaks in full paragraphs, quotes literature no one has heard of, and has a habit of disappearing for days before re-emerging with a completed lyric sheet. She is the emotional center and creative conscience of the band.
Backstory
Born Vera Castellano in Northeast Portland to a librarian mother and a father who played semi-professional blues guitar before an injury ended his career. She grew up surrounded by books and vinyl — a combination that made her unusual from the start. Classically trained in voice through high school, she abandoned a music conservatory scholarship to study Philosophy at Reed College, where she lasted two semesters before dropping out to form Hollow Crown. She has never regretted it. Her stage presence is part performance art, part exorcism — audiences frequently describe her shows as "unsettling in the best way." She keeps no social media under her own name.
Visual Identity
Dark, asymmetric clothing. Pale with dramatic dark eye makeup. Often performs in bare feet. Short, choppy black hair. A silver ring on every finger.
