Marcus Tyde

Marcus Tyde

Bass

Age 32

The steadiest human being in the band. Marcus is unflappable, methodical, and deeply warm. He is the unofficial emotional mediator — the one who makes sure everyone eats before a show and defuses creative arguments before they become personal ones. He also has the most developed production ear in the band and is increasingly involved in arrangement decisions.

Backstory

Born and raised in South Portland. His father was a jazz bassist who played clubs around the Pacific Northwest throughout Marcus childhood. Marcus absorbed harmony and groove theory from an early age and was playing jazz upright at 14. He discovered heavy music through a high school friend who handed him a Deftones CD, and the collision between his jazz foundation and that visceral wall of sound changed everything. He joined Hollow Crown two years after the band formation, replacing the original bassist. He is now considered irreplaceable — his locked-in, melodic bass lines are cited by fans as one of the most distinctive elements of the band sound.

Gear

Warwick Corvette 5-string, typically tuned to B-E-A-D-G, emphasizing sub-bass frequencies.
